In the 1700's there were two young intellectuals by the names of Lord Littleton and Gilbert West. Both were lawyers and both rejected the claims of Christ. One day in a conversation it was concluded that Christianity stood on two foundations: the resurrection of Jesus and the conversion of the apostle Paul. Should these two stories be disproved, the rest of Christianity would fall with them. Gilbert West agreed to write a book disproving Jesus' resurrection and Lord Littleton agreed to write a book disproving that Paul was converted by hearing a voice from heaven. No problem, they thought. But when they got together to share their progress reports, they each had to confess that the evidence was winning them over to the other side. In fact, when it was all over, there were two books: Lord Lyttleton's The Conversion of St. Paul and Gilbert West's book, The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, arguing that the resurrection is a fact of history. CRITICAL EVIDENCES OF DETERMINING RESURRECTION VERACITY |
|

1. The empty tomb. A group of ethical and people concerned with character suffered martyrdom defending their eyewitness testimony that no body was in the tomb. Furthermore, no group challenging the Christians ever disputed the notion it didn’t happen during the years the eyewitnesses could have been easily challenged if false. 2. The burial. Corroborated by extra-biblical sources in detail, the burial of Jesus was done by governmental officials – any of which could easily have contradicted the account. 3. The guard. Roman Centurians who - according to Roman record – would have faced potential death for deserting their post faced something so amazing and fearsome – they ran like mice. 4. The disciples. A demoralized group suddenly found courage to face death, change their most sacred day from Saturday to Sunday and trained others to do good and speak the truth regardless of the cost. This group was either the most diabolical in history – or the best possible eyewitnesses to an event such as this. 5. The post-resurrection appearances. Jesus appeared to over 500 people. 6.The enemies of Christ gave no refutation of the resurrection. Jewish historians have independent record of this account. 7. Paul's testimony implies the fact of the empty tomb. 8. The empty tomb story is part of Mark's source material and is therefore very old. 9. The story is simple and lacks legendary development. 10. The tomb was discovered by women. If the story was made up, this would be the dumbest thing to do in a culture that disdained the station and credibility of women. FOR MORE DETAILS (click here) |
