Jer 49:4 Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? O unfaithful daughter, you trust in your riches and say, `Who will attack me?' Ezek 28:5 By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud. Matt 13:22 The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. (also Mark 4:19, Luke 8:14) Luke 12:17 He thought to himself, `What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' 18 "Then he said, `This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. :19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." ' 20 "But God said to him, `You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' 21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." 22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 1 Tim 6:9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. Rev 3:17 You say, `I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing. 'But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. :18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
How God wants you to see wealth.Ps 62:10 Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. Prov 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Prov 11:28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Prov 13:7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. Prov 23:4 Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. Prov 23:5 Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. Prov 28:22 A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him. Prov 30:8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Eccles 4:8 There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. "For whom am I toiling," he asked, "and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?" This too is meaningless-- a miserable business! Song 8:7 Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned. Luke 12:17 He thought to himself, `What shall I do? James 5:1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. :2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. :3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Ps 39:11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth-- each man is but a breath. Selah Ps 39:6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. Ps 39:11 You rebuke and discipline men for their sin; you consume their wealth like a moth-- each man is but a breath. Selah Ps 49:5 Why should I fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me-- 6 those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? 7 No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him-- Ps 49:10 For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others. Ps 49:12 But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. Ps 49:16 Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases; Prov 11:28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Prov 27:24 for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. Isaiah 10:3 What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?
Poverty is no answer either.Prov 10:15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. Prov 30:8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
Other facts about wealth.Prov 18:11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall. Prov 18:23 A poor man pleads for mercy, but a rich man answers harshly. Eccles 10:20 Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say. Jer 17:11 Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay is the man who gains riches by unjust means. When his life is half gone, they will desert him, and in the end he will prove to be a fool. Micah 4:13 "Rise and thresh, O Daughter of Zion, for I will give you horns of iron; I will give you hoofs of bronze and you will break to pieces many nations." You will devote their ill-gotten gains to the LORD, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.
The Wicked to get wealth. Many of us can't understand how - since God says He wants to bless the righteous - can see evil people get rich. But EVERYTHING is only for a season.... Prov 11:16 A kindhearted woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth. Ps 73:12 This is what the wicked are like-- always carefree, they increase in wealth. Prov 28:8 He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor. Eccles 2:26 To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Eccles 6:2 God gives a man wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires, but God does not enable him to enjoy them, and a stranger enjoys them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil. Ezek 29:19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth. He will loot and plunder the land as pay for his army. Jer 12:1 You are always righteous, O LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? Mal 3:15 But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who challenge God escape.'"
Vows and Prosperity.A vow to God is a sacred thing. It is honored by God differently from requests. Yet - the Bible also says it is better to NEVER have uttered a vow than to not keep it. Gen 14:23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, `I made Abramrich.' (Story of Why God chose Abraham to bless) Gen 28:20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 21 so that I return safely to my father's house, then the LORD will be my God 22 and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth."
Examples of men to whom God gave wealth.1 King 10:23 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 1 Chr 29:28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king. 2 Chr 9:22 King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 2 Chr 17:5 The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor. 2 Chr 18:1 Now Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honor, and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage. 2 Chr 32:27 Hezekiah had very great riches and honor, and he made treasuries for his silver and gold and for his precious stones, spices, shields and all kinds of valuables. 2 Chr 32:29 He built villages and acquired great numbers of flocks and herds, for God had given him very great riches. Gen 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 1 Chr 29:23 So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 2 Chr 14:7 "Let us build up these towns," he said to Judah, "and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side." So they built and prospered. 2 Chr 31:21 In everything that he undertook in the service of God's temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered. Ezra 6:14 So the elders of the Jews continued to build and prosper under the preaching of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, a descendant of Iddo. They finished building the temple according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus, Darius and Artaxerxes, kings of Persia. Ezek 29:19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth. He will loot and plunder the land as pay for his army. Gen 32:9 Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, `Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,' Gen 32:12 But you have said, `I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.'" Gen 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. Acts 13:17 The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country, 2Chr 31:20 This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the LORD his God. 21 In everything that he undertook in the service of God's temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.
Prayers concerning prosperity.Gen 27:28 May God give you of heaven's dew and of earth's richness-- an abundance of grain and new wine. 1 Chr 4:10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. Ruth 2:12 May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge." Matt 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. :8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. :9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? :10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? :11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! :12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, Phil 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Ps 51:18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Prov 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Jer 29:7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you to will prosper." Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Matt 6:11 Give us today our daily bread. 1Jn 3:21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.
